Infographic: House Hunters

Here’s our final infographic of the year, with data courtesy of the blog team at Trulia.com. It’s a look at the most-searched places for houses, from one end of the country to another.

As might be expected, there’s a huge diversity in the numbers, from the million-dollar-plus listings of New York City all the way to the median sales price of $88,900 in Phoenix.

Enjoy, and be sure to check back next year for more infographics, videos and more from the social media team at the Armando Montelongo Companies.

What Day Should I List My Property? Hint: TGIF

A national real estate brokerage recently asked two simple questions:

  • Does it matter what day a seller posts a property online?
  • And if so, which day is best?

After some study, the short answers from Redfin were…”Yes, it matters” and “Friday.”

Among the major conclusions:

  • Homes listed on Friday are toured 19 percent more.
  • Homes listed on Friday or Thursday sell for slightly closer to original list price.
  • Homes listed on Friday are 12 percent more likely to sell in 90 days.

And why Friday? The Redfin blog’s theory is that since buyers tend to tour houses on weekends, houses newly listed on Fridays are more fresh in their minds. Buyers also are interested in getting a good deal by looking at newly listed houses first.

The company analyzed 1,209,010 listings on the market between Jan. 1, 2010, and Sept. 1, 2011, to come up with the results. The markets surveyed were Washington D.C., Arlington County, Baltimore City, Queens N.Y., Fulton County (Atlanta), Cook County (Chicago), Travis County (Austin), Maricopa County (Phoenix), Clark County (Las Vegas), San Diego County, Los Angeles County, Orange County (Irvine), San Francisco County, San Mateo County, Sacramento County, Multnomah County (Portland) and King County (Seattle).
